No, ELAO is a language level testing tool reserved for professionals (public and private institutions, companies and training centres).

The aim of ELAO is to assess students’ language levels prior to language training. We therefore suggest that you take the test without extensive preparation and enrol in a language group that corresponds to your level. You will then be able to make rapid and confident progress in the target language.

Yes, there are video tutorials on YouTube that demonstrate how to use ELAO. Every client who starts using the platform receives links to these tutorials. If you are a new ELAO client and haven’t received any tutorial links, please contact us.

Users are advised to reach out to the contact person in the organisation running ELAO tests. Administrators can get in touch with their ELAO contact person by email or telephone to receive answers to any questions they may have.

ELAO uses adaptive mechanisms which provide accuracy to within a quarter of a level and assess reliably and accurately participants’ oral levels. As the test progresses, the questions are automatically adjusted based on the level of the person being tested. The person taking the test answers between 80 and 116 questions from a pool of 800 questions in each language.

The ELAO test assesses different skills: grammatical structures, active (or productive) vocabulary, passive (or receptive) vocabulary and listening comprehension. You can also choose to include a general and/or professional language assessment.

The test takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

When you want someone to take a test, all you have to do is enter their details (via an Excel file) and send them an automatically generated email. This email contains a link to the test and instructions on how it works. You will then receive an evaluation report as soon as the test has been completed.

You don’t have to do anything to configure the tests; the ELAO platform has been designed to make your job easier. All you need to do is enter the contact details of the people to be tested in the platform so they can be sent an email inviting them to take the test (with all the necessary instructions). ELAO is a digital tool designed to assess a person’s language level in 6 languages (the languages most commonly used in Europe: French, English, Dutch, German, Italian and Spanish). Participants answer a range of questions (between 80 and 116) which are drawn from a pool of more than 800 questions per language. The questions are adapted automatically according to the level of the person being tested as the test progresses. It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to complete.

The language level tests proposed by ELAO are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Using this scale makes it easier to identify and share information on participants’ levels. However, we have added an extra level (A0) to ensure even more accurate results.
